QATAR Airways is leading the recovery of global aviation by implementing the highest standards of bio-safety and hygiene and investing in the latest innovations. It is taking such initiatives at the time when other airlines around the globe are struggling to maintain their operations. On Wednesday, Qatar Airways opened a new stateof-the-art engine facility as part of streamlining the cost of its technical maintenance operations by more than $2.2m per year, further supporting the airline’s growth despite the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic. It is estimated the new facility will enable the airline to improve workflow by over 1,800 man hours per month, or 23,400 man hours per year, by centralising its engine production and engine parts storage processes, increasing the number of its engine production lines from four to eight covering a variety of aircraft engine types. Despite the challenging situation due to COVID-19 outbreak, Qatar Airways continues to expand its network of destinations, offering more flights to international destinations than any other airline. Qatar Airways has unveiled its summer schedule, maintaining its position as the leading international carrier providing reliable global connectivity. Having never stopped flying throughout the pandemic the airline has worked diligently to be the world’s leading airline for safety, innovation and customer experience. By the peak of the IATA Summer Season, the national carrier of the State of Qatar plans to operate over 1,200 weekly flights to more than 140 destinations. Qatar Airways Cargo has played a vital role in maintaining a reliable schedule across the network of destinations. The airline has played a significant role throughout the pandemic and is committed to helping people and giving back to communities, in alignment with its sustainability programme WeQare, based on the core pillars of sustainability - environment, society, economy and culture. It has crossed a milestone by transporting over 1.5 million COVID-19 vaccine doses into Qatar. Since December 2020, Qatar Airways Cargo has transported COVID-19 vaccines to several countries around the world, providing large populations access to these vital vaccines, thanks to the dedication and coordinated efforts of its global teams and ground handling partners. Globally, the cargo carrier has surpassed a milestone with close to 20 million COVID-19 vaccines transported into 24 different countries, including COVID-19 vaccines for UNICEF as part of the five-year MoU to support UNICEF’s Humanitarian Airfreight Initiative. The innovative measures taken by Qatar Airways will further simplify travel and restore passenger confidence during the most challenging period in aviation’s history.
