Yesterday marked the beginning of another great chapter in the age-long bilateral relationship between Qatar and Great Britain, as HM King Charles III was officially crowned as the new King of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland at Westminster Abbey in London.
The event had in attendance the Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and Consort of HH the Amir H H Sheikha Jawaher bint Hamad bin Suhaim Al Thani and a number of Their Majesties, Highnesses, and Excellences heads of states and governments, along with senior officials from the UK and around the world who participated in the ceremony.
In a tweet, HH the Amir said, “I was pleased to attend the coronation ceremony of His Majesty King Charles III of the United Kingdom, for whom we hope for further progress and prosperity during his reign. During my visit, I discussed with Prime Minister Rishi Sunak ways to strengthen our strong historical relations and the situation in our region and the world, and we stressed the need to find peaceful solutions to all conflicts.” Qatar and the United Kingdom of Great Britain have always enjoyed a very cordial and mutually beneficial relationship since the two great countries came into contact several decades ago, and the dispensation of the new king is poised to further reinforce the great bond.
Bilateral relations between Doha and London have strengthened over the years since the beginnings of oil and gas exploration in the Arab Gulf region, where British companies have played a fundamental and pivotal role in the development of the oil and gas industry in the State of Qatar.
These relations have expanded to bilateral cooperation in all fields, especially political, economic, commercial, defense, cultural, and educational, as generations of Qataris have studied in the United Kingdom from Sandhurst to Wales.
Qatari-UK relations have a strong history that is reflected in all areas of cooperation between the two countries. Qatar’s wise leadership seeks to transform the country into a global center for knowledge-based and innovation-based industries, to build a sustainable economy capable of achieving high growth rates in the future, and to expand our partnership in the fields of education, health, sports, and security, which are areas in which the United Kingdom is a world leader.
King Charles III is also no stranger to Qatar, having visited the country in March 2013 on a state visit with his wife, the then Duchess of Cornwall, while HH the Amir also made a state visit to the UK in October 2014.
This is to wish HM King Charles III a peaceful and prosperous reign as the ties between Qatar and the United Kingdom continue to grow by leaps and bounds.
