It has been a busy two weeks for Qatar Museums – raising funds for local charities, encouraging people to get active, promoting public art, and holding guided tours to museums and exhibitions. These are some of the activities they have been doing this holy month.

The museums have also changed its operating hours so people can enjoy the beauty of arts and culture of Qatar in the morning and at night this Ramadan. It is open on Saturday to Thursday, 10am to 2pm and 8pm to 12am, and on Friday, from 8pm to 12am.

Last Tuesday, Liwan Design Studios and Labs, under QM held its inaugural ‘Liwan for Good’, a community-focused event, which raised money for local charities. The Ministry of Social Development and Family, Education Above All, and cats_etecetra are among the local charities that participated, and all proceeds from the event’s sales will go to these respective charities.

A large crowd turned out for the event wherein according to Liwan’s Director, Aisha bint Nasser Al Sowaidi demonstrated the organisation’s dedication to its vision and Liwan’s commitment to giving back to society.

Qatar boasts a dynamic art and cultural scene, and to even further that, QM has also announced its annual public art open calls for emerging and established artists based in Qatar. These annual open calls bring together local artists who not only propose public artworks that will leave a legacy, but also transform the city, making it come further alive through their art.

The programmes include: JedariArt, which brings artists together to add vibrancy and meaning to Doha’s city walls through murals and street art; Student Initiative, which invites university students and alumni to propose a temporary or permanent public artwork; 5/6 Initiative open call encourages artists to propose a public artwork that speaks to everyone living in the GCC; and the Annual Intervention Open Call encourages artists to propose ideas for a public artwork that improves urban life.

On Thursday, the 3-2-1 Obstacle Challenge 2023 started and will continue every day through April 23 with the exception of Eid Al Fitr. The fun outdoor activity is a great way for families to get a full-body workout and encourage everyone to get fit this holy month. The event will take place at Khalifa International Stadium Gates 16 and 17.

Activities are divided into children and adults obstacle course and the toddlers obstacle course, aged three to six years. Running for the second year now, the Obstacle Challenge is free to attend but registration is needed through the QM website.
