Yesterday saw some important developments as Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani issued Order that reshuffled the Cabinet and appointed H E Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani as Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs. This came in Amiri Order No. (2) of 2023 issued yesterday. The order also indicated that H E Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani will retain the Foreign Affairs portfolio.

Before H H the Amir, the new Prime Minister took oath yesterday at the Amiri Diwan. The swearing-in ceremony was attended by Deputy Amir H H Sheikh Abdullah bin Hamad Al Thani.

His Excellency comes to the top of the government after representing Qatar as a Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs for several years. He has been instrumental in putting forth Qatar’s interests in many important international forums and forging relations with many countries around the world.

He has also been the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Qatar Investment Authority (QIA) for the last few years. QIA is the sovereign wealth fund of the State of Qatar, which has been mandated to protect and grow the nation’s financial assets for future generations.

H H the Amir also issued an Order where H E Sheikh Khalifa bin Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani was appointed as Minister of Interior, while other ministers remain in their respective portfolios.

H H the Amir also issued an Amiri Decision yesterday restructuring the Board of Directors of QIA appointing H E Sheikh Bandar bin Mohammed bin Saud Al Thani, Governor of the Qatar Central Bank, as the new Chairman.

QIA has an important role in Qatar’s economy as its objective is to create long-term value by investing Qatar’s surpluses in various assets worldwide thus helping the nation to diversify. QIA also supports local development by investing in companies, which stimulates the local economy as and when required.

These changes mark a new beginning under the wise leadership of H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.

Qatar enjoys security, stability and economic prosperity and has been setting new standards, be it in organizing mega sports events like FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 or various international conferences. It has also been topping most lists when it comes to security, tourism, growth and other such developmental parameters. This will only further accentuate as the State closes into Qatar’s National Vision, which aims to make Qatar “an advanced society capable of sustaining its development and providing a high standard of living for its people by 2030.
