QOC’s busy sports calendar

From global events to continental and regional competitions, Qatar is set to host high profile sports action throughout this year. Only the Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) will stage over 80 contests including 14 major international contests, the country’s Olympic body announced recently.

The announcement brought cheers to fans in the country who relished the best ever edition of the FIFA World Cup which Qatar hosted with great success.

Top sides and star athletes from across the globe will continue to visit Qatar, which will remain the centre of sports this year. 

Top-notch action begins right this month with Qatar Volleyball Association (QVA) preparing to host the popular King of the Court Finals (Beach Volleyball) followed by the Beach Pro Tour Finals. The Qatar Tennis, Squash and Badminton Federation is preparing for the Qatar ExxonMobil Open and Qatar TotalEnergies Open which will bring top-ranked men and women’s tennis players to the country next month.  Major events to be hosted in Qatar in 2023 include Artistic Gymnastics World Cup 2023, Qatar Open Amateur Championship, 2023 ISSF World-shotgun, Ooredoo Qatar Major Padel Championship and the IJF World Judo Championship. 

International championships which Qatar will stage this year include the Longines World Showjumping Champions Tours, the Qualifying tournament for the Paris 2024 Olympics in showjumping, 28th edition of Qatar International Table Tennis Championship, 2023 Commercial Bank Qatar Masters Golf Championship, Qatar Fencing Grand Prix - Epee, Qatar Grand Prix (Shotgun), Inaugural leg of FIP’s Official Padel Tour, Doha Diamond League, third edition of Qatar International Taekwondo Open Championship, Qatar International Ice Hockey Open Championship and Qatar International Weightlifting Cup (Grand Prix ).

Seventeen top continental events to come to the country include FIBA Asia Cup 2025 Pre-Qualifiers, Asia professional Golf Tour, West Asia Men’s Athletics Championship, FIBA U16 Asian Championship, Asia Rugby Sevens Trophy, West Asia Men’s Squash Championship, Asian Handball Qualifications for 2024 Olympic Games and the Asian Padel Championship.

Qatar will also be the hub for regional events with Doha Stars Artistic Gymnastic Championship, Arab Squash Championship (Singles – Teams), Arab Padel Tournament, and Arab Judo Championship scheduled this year besides the 2023 GCC Sports Tournament for Universities and Higher Education Institutions, GCC Squash Championship (Singles and teams), GCC 3x3 U16 Basketball Championship, GCC 3x3 Basketball Championship from, GCC Padel Championship, and GCC Billiard and Snooker Championship. 

Popular local events are also set to wow fans throughout this year. These events include Amir Cup competitions in several disciplines including the highly-anticipated Amir Cup football and HH The Amir Sword Equestrian Festival.
