Over the years, the importance of collective action and international cooperation in the face of many disasters and epidemics, the latest of which was COVID-19, has seen the world come out of these challenges stronger. The successes of these collective actions is an inspiration to face the health challenges of the future together.

Through the World Health Organization (WHO), the world has researched health emergencies, pandemics, and threats, and these experiences and achievements represent critical lessons for the future.

In light of this, World Health Day, which falls on April 7 and marks the formation of WHO, is a global event celebrated annually to draw attention to a specific health topic of concern to people worldwide.

In 1948, countries came together and founded WHO to promote health, keep the world safe and serve the vulnerable – so everyone, everywhere, can attain the highest level of health and well-being.

The theme of this year is ‘Health for All’, and the Ministry of Public Health is participating in this event underling its commitment to providing the highest standards of health services to everyone living in Qatar.

Minister of Public Health, H E Dr. Hanan Mohamed Al Kuwari, highlighted Qatar’s commitment to Health for All, stating that the health sector has greatly progressed in protecting and supporting Qatar’s population in recent years.

The Ministry pointed out that this year’s celebration comes in light of the many achievements and challenges achieved by the health sector in Qatar thanks to the great support and attention given by the state under the leadership of Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, to the country's health sector.

Marking this day is a momentous occasion to stress bolstering efforts to implement comprehensive health coverage policies, raise awareness on hygiene and health education, and use modern technology to develop the health sector. The Minister pointed out that besides ensuring easy access to high-quality medical services for all citizens and residents, Qatar is committed to providing the population with a conducive environment that promotes good health and provides knowledge and tools for healthy living.

Qatar has a respectable record of health achievements over the past years, and all eight municipalities have achieved the status of “Healthy City” from the WHO. This made Qatar the first country in the world to achieve this status. Beyond these achievements, Qatar proved its commitment to cooperating with WHO and different countries through its continued support of programmes encouraging Health for All worldwide.
