After hosting a number of international conferences, Qatar is set to host five-day LDC5 Conference in Doha today where world leaders will gather with the private sector, civil society, parliamentarians, and young people to advance new ideas, raise new pledges of support. It clearly shows growing global stature of Qatar and its leadership.

The Conference will feature plenary sessions, parallel high-level thematic roundtables, and a series of parallel and side events on various thematic priorities of the DPoA. A Summit level meeting of the LDC Group, chaired by the President of Malawi, was held yesterday before the Conference.

Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani will inaugurate today the United Nations 5th Conference on Least Developed Countries (LDC5), which is held under the theme "From Potential to Prosperity".

A commemoration event on the 50th anniversary of the establishment of the Group of LDCs will also be held after the opening session. There will also be dedicated events for the Private Sector, CSOs, Youth, Parliamentarians and South-South tracks on the margins of the Conference.

At the Summit yesterday, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs H E Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani said that the conference will constitute a milestone toward fulfilling the commitment of the Doha Program of Action toward the least developed countries (LDCs).

He said that the participants have a historical opportunity to reaffirm their commitment to constructive cooperation and multilateral action, support the LDCs in addressing the grave challenges, and continue the positive momentum and spirit of solidarity that characterized the unanimous adoption of the Doha Program of Action.

Qatar has made significant and laudable contributions to assisting the least developed countries to achieve the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals, by strengthening its partnerships in most needy regions, ensuring the achievement of social, economic and environmental development.

The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs also inaugurated the 'United Nations House' in Lusail, yesterday, which shows Qatar's strong partnership with the Nited Nations.  The Youth Forum was also held yesterday within the framework of LDC5 Conference and discussed stimulating efforts to empower this group in about 46 countries that suffered from insufficient resources to combat epidemics and escalating debts.

President of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Duarte Pacheco has praised the efforts of Qatar in supporting the LDCs, its counterterrorism efforts, and its support for the sustainable development goals (SDGs) through effective programs, tangible steps, and allocating the required resources to achieve that.
