Even before the World Cup began, Katara demonstrated once more why it is the country’s community hub by hosting a variety of events that were open to people of all ages, races and religions.
Off the field, Katara organises a range of activities, such as live game screenings, mural presentations fusing sports and the arts and art exhibitions.
Tens of thousands of tourists from all over the world have been flocking to Katara for more than 15 days to take part in its beautiful array of activities. The general public gets exposed to Arab culture in addition to cultural events.
One instance is the recently opened Katara Traditional Dhow Museum, which offers a look into life in earlier times. The museum showcases the ships used by ancestors in Qatar and the Gulf region on their fishing and pearl diving trips, transport of goods, diving tools, boats and the means used by sailors and the blades used in manufacturing of wooden ships.
General Manager of Katara, Prof. Dr. Khalid bin Ibrahim Al Sulaiti said they sought to make the museum integrated by displaying everything related to the marine heritage in Qatar and the region in general. He added that the museum presents various models of traditional ships used for diving by ancestors.
The museum aims to identify the difficulties and obstacles faced by ancestors during their four-month pearl diving period, and to convey to the new generations how life evolved from these stages to the stage of renaissance and prosperity currently witnessed.
The museum will continue and there will be cooperation with the Ministry of Education and Higher Education to organise trips for the different educational stages to view the museum's holdings, which provides a full explanation of the marine heritage. The museum also contains natural and cultured pearls.
Meanwhile, Katara is continuing its celebrations accompanying the FIFA Qatar World Cup 2022, amid a large crowd of people from different nationalities and groups.
The Katara Traditional Dhow Festival attracts visitors from many countries. As part of its openness to various types of arts, Katara allows artists to present their artworks to the public in various places.
A number of Qatari and foreign artists of various nationalities also remain present on Katara Beach and within the Katara Traditional Dhow Festival, presenting their artworks to visitors. Some private pavilions of the participating countries are also presenting artistic paintings inspired by maritime heritage and fishing life.
