The General Assembly of the United Nation called in 1977 for the annual observance of 29 November as the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People, ironically it is the day, in 1947, the Assembly adopted the resolution on the partition of Palestine. The event is an important annual occasion to remind the world of the justice of the Palestinian cause and the right of the Palestinian people to restore all their legitimate and inalienable rights, foremost of which is their right to self-determination, ending the occupation, and establishing their independent and sovereign state on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.
State of Qatar reiterated its continued support for their just struggle to restore land, sanctities, and inalienable rights that are supported by all international and humanitarian laws and principles.
The right of self-determination comes at the forefront of those rights to ensure the establishment of an independent, sustainable, and viable Palestinian state on the borders of 1967 with East Jerusalem as its capital, said H E Sheikha Alya Ahmed bin Saif Al Thani, Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the United Nations in a statement delivered during the UN 77th session of the General Assembly. Sheikha Alya stressed the need to end the Israeli occupation of all the occupied Arab land, including the occupied Syrian Golan and Lebanese territories, clarifying that this is the way to achieve sustainable settlement of the Palestine cause. Peace and stability in the region will not be achieved without the two-state solution, in accordance with the Arab Peace Initiative, and in implementation of the resolutions of international legitimacy.
For years, Israel continues its attacks on the Al Aqsa Mosque by Israeli forces and settlers, in a clear violation of international laws and in attempts to alternate the historical and legal status of the sacred place in East Jerusalem.
In light of the international community’s clear disregard for the suffering of the Palestinian people, daily assassinations of Palestinian youth and Israel’s rejection of all proposed solutions, it has added to the wound by appointing the most extremist far-right and fascist government which has a history of hostility toward Palestinians. What the Palestinian people are facing on a daily basis of criminal practices at the hands of the Israeli occupation forces did not leave room for maneuvering for any party in the world, which makes it so important to face the truth and recognize their right to freedom and establish their independent state, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
