The education landscape in Qatar got another worthy mention globally recently, with Qatar University breaking into the top 200 institutions in the world after climbing to the 173rd spot in the QS World Rankings 2024. With the latest ranking, the prestigious institution also achieved top positions in the Arab region.

Qatar University’s position in the QS World Rankings 2024 has seen a remarkable improvement, jumping 35 positions up from its previous slot of 208.

The QS World Rankings for this year introduced three new criteria: Sustainability, employment opportunities, and the scope of its international research network, suggesting recent strides by the institute on an academic level as well as its efforts to address real-world challenges and create a positive impact on an international scale.

Qatar University’s academic programmes have also garnered recognition in the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2023. The university has achieved top positions in the Arab region, claiming the first spot in Sports Science and Theology, Divinity, and Religion subjects.

Law and Legal Studies, Environmental Sciences, Accounting and Finance, and Social Sciences and Management have secured third positions regionally.

The subjects offered by Qatar University’s have also made it to the top 10 in the Arab region, with some even gaining places in the top 50 and top 200 globally. The latest achievement follows the announcement by Times Higher Education that QU placed 28th in the Times Higher Education (THE) Asia Rankings 2023, moving up 18 places from 2022 and proudly entering the top 30 universities in Asia, as well as placing 24th worldwide and first in the MENA region on the Young Universities ranking by the same ranking agency.

The achievement confirms the university's continental improvement alongside regional, worldwide, and across ranking agencies. Phil Baty, Chief Global Affairs Officer at Times Higher Education, congratulated QU for "joining the top 25 of the world's leading "young" universities—those 50 years old or younger." Recently, the university achieved yet another remarkable milestone in pharmacy and pharmacology as it climbed in the QS Subject Ranking.

In the recently released 2023 edition, QU was ranked in the top 150 worldwide (101–150), an outstanding improvement from its previous ranking in the top 250 in 2022, and a significant leap from its debut ranking in the top 300 in 2021.

The rising profile of Qatar University further confirms Qatar's commitment to developing a world-class educational system that meets modern international standards and provides citizens with opportunities to develop their abilities and capacities and the best training to succeed in a world with increasing educational requirements. The country attaches great importance to human development thanks to its wise leadership, which continually emphasizes the importance of the human factor as a primary contributor to development.

Congratulations to Qatar University on this latest honour.
