BAGHDAD: A twin bombing killed at least 13 people and injured dozens in the Iraqi capital Baghdad on Saturday, according to a local police officer.
Two bombers detonated themselves near spare parts shops in Al-Sinak market in central Baghdad, Ahmed Khalaf told Anadolu Agency.
He said 22 people were injured in the attack, expecting the death toll to rise as many of the injured are in a serious condition.
Iraqi army forces cordoned off the market in anticipation of further attacks.
There was no claim of responsibility for the bombing, which came amid a wide-ranging offensive launched by the Iraqi army to recapture Mosul from the Islamic State terrorist group.
Iraq’s second largest city in terms of population, Mosul was overrun – along vast swathes of territory in both northern and western Iraq – by IS in 2014.
