Sheikh Thani bin Abdullah Foundation for Humanitarian Services (RAF) provided humanitarian aid worth QR152m all over the world with special focus on Syria, Iraq and Yemen in 2016.
RAF implemented 220 relief projects in 34 countries in Asia, Africa and Europe last year.
“More than QR152m were spent on humanitarian aid provided by RAF to the needy countries in 2016,” said Dr Mohamad Salah Ibrahim, Deputy Director General of RAF. “The project was financed by the people in Qatar in term of donation,” he added.
More than 2.7 million people affected by natural disasters and war benefitted from the relief projects of RAF. The project focused on providing basic needs of the beneficiaries like foods, medicines and education.
The highest number of projects was implemented in Asian countries to rescue the people from humanitarian crises there like Syria, Iraq and Yemen. Asian countries received 146 wroth over QR112.9m. More than two million people benefitted from the projects.
Syria received 55 received 55 relief projects followed by Yemen with 26 projects. Iraq bagged 25 projects, Lebanon nine projects, Jordon seven projects, Philippines six projects, Indonesia four projects, Myanmar three projects, Sri Lanka three projects, Palestine, India and Pakistan received two projects each. Nepal, Bangladesh and Tajikistan could get only one project for each.
Seventy two humanitarian projects were implemented by RAF in 18 African countries at a cost of over QR39m. more than 680,000 people benefitted from the projects.
Amid migration from the countries of war to European countries, RAF provided humanitarian aid wroth QR150,000 in Macedonia. More than 2,500 Syria refugees sheltering there benefitted.
The relief projects provided basic foods, medicines, cloths and shelters to the people affected by natural disasters or war in fragile countries.
