Algiers: H E Yahi Ali, head of the Qatar-Algeria Parliamentary Friendship Group in the Algerian People’s National Assembly, said Qatar-Algeria relations are witnessing remarkable development at various levels thanks to the directives of the two wise leaderships in the two brotherly countries.
In exclusive statements to QNA, he said Qatar, in all circumstances and transformations in the region, has played an important and pivotal role in supporting Arab causes and strengthening Arab solidarity in facing various challenges, similar to its honourable positions in support of the Palestinian cause, which are the same positions that Algeria adopts on this issue.
On the Qatar-Algeria Parliamentary Friendship Group, he explained that this group was established this year as one of the mechanisms to strengthen and consolidate relations between Qatar and Algeria, by intensifying meetings between the Shura Council and the Algerian People’s National Assembly in the interest of the two brotherly countries and peoples.
In this context, he pointed out that the relations between Qatar and Algeria are solid in the past and present, and it is expected that they will be so in the future in light of this strong momentum that they are witnessing at various levels, including the parliamentary level, especially since the two countries have a distinct parliamentary experience that has developed over decades.
In this regard, he praised the gradual steps of parliamentary work in the State of Qatar, which culminated in the holding of the Shura Council elections last year, for the first time in its history, describing it as an important step towards consolidating popular participation. His Excellency said, “We are very keen to strengthen relations with the Shura Council in a way that enhances parliamentary cooperation at various levels.”
He stated that he had received an invitation from the Shura Council to visit the State of Qatar in the coming months, to discuss ways to enhance cooperation between the two councils, and to study a work project to activate the friendship group and start joint cooperation to exchange parliamentary experiences and ideas and raise the level of coordination in international forums.
