Doha: Hamad Medical Corporation’s (HMC) Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology (DLMP) has successfully achieved accreditation from the Association for the Advancement of Blood and Biotherapy (AABB).
The accreditation comes after a rigorous assessment which was conducted over three days in early October. The AABB accredits blood banks and transfusion services worldwide in more than 80 countries.
The AABB Accreditation programme is internationally recognised as the symbol of quality.
Facilities that have achieved AABB accreditation are known to provide world class products and services. Its standards combine the field’s leading quality management system essentials with technical requirements designed to ensure optimal quality and safety for donors, patients and staff.
DLMP Chairperson, Dr. Einas Al Kuwari said the accreditation was a remarkable achievement as the Department was examined for 431 main standards with no deficiencies found by inspectors.
The DLMP operates Qatar Blood Services which is the only health organisation responsible for provision of blood supplies for the whole state of Qatar including all governmental and private health institutes.
“The international team of inspectors highly commended the excellence of the Transfusion Medicine Services at HMC citing that several of the commendable practices would be recommended to be included in the AABB website for wider publication to other institutions,” Dr. Al Kuwari said.
“AABB accreditation is an international mark of excellence that demonstrates our facility’s commitment to quality and safety to patients, donors and the community. HMC Laboratories have once again proven we operate at the highest international standards — a reflection of our commitment to continuous quality improvement and in line with HMC’s vision to deliver the safest, most effective and most compassionate care to every one of its patients.”
