Beneficiary students in Chad.
Sheikh Thani bin Abdullah Foundation for Humanitarian Services (RAF) has launched a project at a cost of QR800,000 to create educational opportunities to poor students in Chad.
The project was financed by the endowment fund of Sheikh Thani bin Abdullah Al Thani for charity works.
The initiative is part of the ongoing project ‘Al Ghaza W Al Nur (Food and Light)’ being executed by RAF, in collaboration with Unicef and UN World Food Program (WFP). The plan is to provide basic food items to needy families on monthly basis so that they could send their children to school.
RAF provided food baskets, school supplies including bags, stationeries and uniforms to beneficiary children and their families enough for a year.
A survey conducted by RAF in collaboration with its local partner in Chad to find the reasons why the big number of students are being deprived from school. The survey suggests several reasons including lack of school in their respective localities, poor income of the families, sending children for works to be source of income. Parents are unaware about the importance of the education or they have family problems like divorce or one of them died. Students are suffering from health problems like poor sight and hearing problems. Early marriage for girls among villagers is also a reason. One of five children is being deprived from basic education in Chad. And one of the three students among those going to schools can complete their basic education. “Food & Light” initiative provides needy families with basic food items on a monthly basis for one year so they could send their children to school.
Small development projects will also be launched to provide livelihood for needy families.
