Qatar to introduce civil awards

DOHA: Qatar plans to institute civil awards and decorations. A draft law seeking to institute civil decorations was approved by the State Cabinet yesterday.

The draft law has been referred to the Advisory Council for review and recommendations.
Prime Minister and Interior Minister H E Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani yesterday chaired the Cabinet’s regular weekly meeting at its Emiri Diwan premises, reports QNA. After the meeting, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs, H E Ahmed bin Abdullah bin Zaid Al Mahmoud said the cabinet reviewed topics on agenda. Under the provisions, the award of civil decorations will be instituted by an Emiri decision. 

The decorations are awarded according to this order: (1) Sword of The Founder ‘Sheikh Jassim bin Mohamed bin Thani’; (2)  Sash of H H Father Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani; and (3) Decoration of Al Wajbah

More civil decorations can be instituted by an Emiri decision which determines their orders. Those who receive any of the civil decorations will be granted a patent certificate signed by the Emir and the decision of awarding this decoration shall be published in the official gazette.
The Department of Emiri Protocol at the Emiri Diwan shall undertake all executive functions pertaining to the preparation of the decorations and patents, the conservation thereof, and the follow-up of all related issues.
The Cabinet also approved a draft decision by the Council of Ministers amending some provisions of the decision No 73 of 2014 forming a committee to oversee petrol storage and filling stations.
The committee, established by the Ministry of Energy and Industry, is presided over by a representative from Qatar Petroleum and with members from the bodies concerned.
It is tasked to develop unified standards and specifications for all petrol storage and filling stations, specify kinds of activities permitted for the stations, evaluate existing stations and their compatibility with the approved environment, health and safety norms and standards, and determine the necessary requirements to improve and develop the existing stations.
The cabinet also approved a draft decision of the Minister of Finance on the establishment of a customs office at Hamad Port according to the map and coordination attached to the Emiri decision No. 58 of 2015 establishing Hamad Port.
The weekly Cabinet meeting also approved a draft agreement for technical, trade and economic cooperation between the governments of Qatar and Nigeria.
