DOHA: Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) has allocated $100,000 to provide urgent humanitarian aid to internally displaced people in Fallujah city in Iraq due to unrest in the country.
The fund is sourced from the QRCS’s Disaster Response Emergency Fund (DREF), responding to provide basic needs in this critical phase.
Aid materials will be distributed by a delegation of QRCS in Iraq to the needy residents of Fallujah and Makhmour. Some 7,800 families comprising 39,000 people will benefit from the largesse of QRCS.
Some 6,000 would-be-beneficiary families comprising 30,000 people were displaced in the three areas of Al Anbar governorate: A’mereyet Al Fallujah, Al Khalideya and Al Habaneya.
At least 1,800 families comprising 9,000 people were displaced in Makhmour area of Al Mosul governorate located some 50km from Al Mosul City.
The QRCS has launched the Disaster Management Information System (DMIS) at its headquarters on March 28, 2016.
The DMIS aims at assessing and following-up on the humanitarian situation of IDPs in Iraq in cooperation with the QRCS Delegation in Irbil.
The move aims to prepare in the next few days a detailed response plan to provide relief to thousands of the besieged and affected families, under the United Nations Humanitarian Response Plan (HRP) 2016 in Iraq in the related sectors.
According to the United Nations Humanitarian Needs Overview (HNO) 2016 of Iraq, there is a remarkable increase in the number of internally displaced people (IDPs) in the country because of the ongoing conflict.
The figure has reached 3.2 million. Women and Children account for 75 percent of the IDPs.
The sources of incomes of the displaced people remain disrupted. Non-Communicable Diseases are spreading fast.
People are battling all kinds of odds in the absence of basic services, a release issued by the QRCS said. The Peninsula
