Doha Institute for Graduate Studies set to hold annual English language learning and teaching seminar

The Language Center at the Doha Institute for Graduate Studies will hold its annual English Language learning and teaching Seminar. The event will take place online on February 7th, 2021, from 3:00pm – 6:00PM (Doha time) via Webex. The topic this year is Academic English in a Virtual Setting: Aspects and Sustainability.

The opening remarks will be given by Alaa Elgibali, Director of the Language Center at 3:00pm, followed by three professional and academic presentations from the international community on topics related to English language teaching in the context of higher education. Below is a list of the presentations.

Kelly Wilson, Writing Center Administrator, of Northwestern University in Qatar, will talk about fostering a community for writers in a virtual setting.  Jim Buckingham, Language Lecturer and Education Technologist in the College of Preparatory Studies, Sultan Qaboos University in Oman, will address the issues related to rethinking instructional design in an EAP Context. Finally, Joseph Alvaro, of Corpus Christi College, Vancouver in Canada, will share pedagogical and practical consideration in E-learning and English for academic purposes, focusing on the problems, solutions, and applications.
