ICAI seminar on risk management for professionals

The Doha chapter of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) conducted a seminar on risk management — concepts and ways of managing. The seminar was addressed by two eminent experts in the field, Ozge Gurgur, ERM Project Leader for Deloitte and Touche (Middle East) and Mahmood H Shaikh, Director Assurance with Deloitte & Touche. Gurgur highlighted 10 ways to improve risk management and shared his experience in lessons learned in ERM implementations programme; he proposed both quick wins and also strategic investments. Mahmood H Shaikh focused on practical examples to make the audience understand the concepts of hedge accounting. The interactive session was attended by finance professionals from various industries and organisations, covered strategic risk, operational risk and financial risk, organisational risk appetite and methods to handle specific risks such as currency hedging. Doha chapter chairman Hatim Hussain in his welcome address said: “Enterprise risk management enables management to effectively deal with uncertainty and associated risk and opportunity, enhancing the capacity to build value.
