Emir issues law on real estate brokerage

Emir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani issued Law No. 22 of 2017, on the terms and conditions related to the licensing of practising real estate brokering, the commitments of the real estate brokerages, disciplinary accountability rules, suspension and revocation of the licence.
The law included establishing a real estate brokerage committee at the Ministry of Justice to be formed by its council. One of its responsibilities will include looking into the complaints submitted by those affected by the department’s decisions regarding real estate brokers.
The law will reconcile the conditions of the real estate brokers and offices, once the law is applied in compliance to its provisions, within a maximum period of six months from the date of its implementation. A decision by the Minister of Justice may extend the grace period once, or several times.
The law is effective from its implementation and shall be published in the official gazette.
The Emir also issued Law No.23 of 2017 amending certain provisions of Law No. 11 of 1990 establishing Qatar Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
The Emir also ratified Cabinet Decision No. 43 of 2017 establishing the Standing Committee for Farms and Farmers’ Affairs. The decision will be implemented from the day following the date of its publication in the Official Gazette.
The Emir issued an instrument of ratification approving a draft memorandum of understanding on legal cooperation activities between the governments of the State of Qatar and Malaysia, signed in Putrajaya on October 16, 2017.
The Emir also issued an instrument of ratification approving a draft memorandum of understanding on cooperating in the field of education, higher education and scientific research between the governments of the State of Qatar and the Somali Republic, signed in Doha on March 18, 2015.
The Emir issued an instrument of ratification approving the ratification of the agreement to encourage and protect mutual investments between the governments of the State of Qatar and the Argentine Republic, signed in Doha on November 6, 2016.
The Emir also issued an instrument of accession to the Convention on International Transport of Goods Under Cover of TIR Carnets 1975 (TIR Convention).
The Emir also issued an instrument of accession approving Qatar’s joining of the International Convention for the Control and Management of Ships’ Ballast Water and Sediments 2004.
