Doha International Family Institute (DIFI), member of Qatar Foundation, hosted yesterday an experts meeting in cooperation with the United Nations Population Fund on integrating family in sustainable development goals for Arab countries. The event took place at Qatar National Convention Center.
DIFI Executive Director Noor Al-Malki Al-Jehani said that the meeting comes in the context of the institute’s dedication to family-related policies and promoting an active role for families in development. She added that the institute cooperated with its partner to host 30 events on the matter since 2007.
Those events were mainly experts meetings that discussed how to promote the role of family development and policy-making. She expressed her hope that the center can continue to make a contribution in that regard, with the latest experts meeting that took place here today.
For his part, Deputy Chief of the Policy Coordination Branch at the Department of Economic and Social Affairs United Nations Alberto Padova praised the cooperation with DIFI and championing the cause of families through including it in the policy-making decisions related to sustainable development goals 2030.
He stressed that those goals cannot be achieved without a fully-functional family keen and committed to keeping pace with development challenges. He added that a strong, self-reliant family that is capable of providing for its need is an important tool in achieving sustainable development.
He noted that one of the 2030 goals was ending poverty and hunger, as well as providing high-quality healthcare. Those goals, Padova added, are social in nature and will require having a strong family in order to achieve them.
