 
Doha: Minister of Endowments of the Syrian Arab Republic HE Mohammad Abu Al Khair Shukri praised Qatar's experience in serving the obligation of zakat during his visit, accompanied by a delegation from the Syria's Highest Fatwa Council, to the Zakat Affairs Department at the Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs (Awqaf).
During the visit, Director of the Zakat Affairs Department Mal Allah Abdulrahman Al Jaber affirmed that the visit reflects the strength of fraternal relations between the two countries and their mutual commitment to enhancing cooperation in religious and humanitarian fields, particularly in serving zakat, which is a fundamental pillar of Islam and a tool for achieving social solidarity and sustainable development.
The Director of Zakat Affairs delivered a comprehensive presentation on Qatar's approach to zakat administration, noting that the department is responsible for collecting zakat funds and disbursing them to their legitimate channels within the country, in accordance with precise regulations that ensure fairness and transparency in distribution.
He highlighted the department's use of modern technology to facilitate electronic zakat payments, contributing to improved service quality for both payers and beneficiaries.
Al Jaber explained that the department's role extends beyond collection and distribution, encompassing the promotion of zakat culture and awareness through media campaigns, educational programs, and training initiatives. It also actively participates in international seminars and conferences to exchange expertise and reinforce the concept of zakat as an effective tool for achieving social justice.
He further noted that the department is staffed by qualified national professionals specialized in religious, social, and administrative fields, and operates within an integrated digital system that supports efficiency and accuracy, making Qatar's experience a distinguished model in modern zakat management across the region.
Following the presentation, HE Mohammad Abu Al Khair Shukri expressed the Syrian Ministry of Endowments' aspiration to strengthen cooperation and exchange expertise with Qatar's Zakat Affairs Department, and to benefit from its technical and administrative experience in developing zakat collection and disbursement systems.
He affirmed that the visit marks an important step toward expanding collaboration between the two ministries on issues of mutual interest.
