The Doha Sheraton Hotel lit in red to mark World Heart Day yesterday.
DOHA: The Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC) yesterday marked World Heart Day by raising awareness about the importance of maintaining a healthy heart.
The global awareness initiative is endorsed by World Health Organisation and World Heart Federation.
PHCC hosted activities and programmes on prevention of risks associated with heart disease and strokes, including the importance of maintaining healthy blood pressure, cholesterol and glucose levels, effects of smoking, eating healthy food, overweight, obesity and physical inactivity.
PHCC’s health centres organised lectures for staff, on causes of heart disease and its impact, including the importance of promoting healthy lifestyle and wellness among patients and clients of PHCC.
Tests for diabetes, including ECG, and other tests were offered to visitors at the health centres. Exercise for 30 minutes a day, as a minimum requirement, and eating whole grains meals, fresh fruit and vegetables, will contribute to a healthy heart and a happier and active lifestyle, PHCC said.
