DOHA: Sheikh Thani bin Abdullah Foundation for Humanitarian Services (RAF) has launched an initiative to distribute 800 food baskets to poor villagers in Indonesia.
More than 5,000 people will benefit from the largesse. A basket will have enough foodstuff for a family of five for a month.
The food items mobilised for distribution include 40,000kg of rice, 11,000 litres of edible oil, 4,000kg lintels and the same quantity of milk powder among others.
A basket will have 50kg rice, seven gallon edible oil, 6kg sugar and the same quantity of milk powder worth QR250.
The food items will be distributed in five remote villages of Jakarta, Baqur and Bandonge and other areas of Java Island.
“RAF conducted a survey in collaboration with its local partner “Al Sela” humanitarian organisation and listed most deserving people like orphans, widows, people with disabilities, senior citizens, divorcees and other poor people”, said Qishairi Yiri, from Al Sela.
“Many Indonesian families in remote areas are living below poverty line. It is very difficult for them to earn enough money to cover their day-to-day expenses”, said Qishairi.
The initiative was launched at Lulu Hyper Market in Jakarta. The inaugural ceremony was attended by a delegation from RAF led by Saleh bin Hamad Al Marri, an ambassador of the Mercy of Ambassadors and Qaid Al Qalisi, Head of Asian Affairs Department at RAF and representatives from local authority.
