Emir’s visits boost ties with Argentina, Colombia

Buenos Aires: Emir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani yesterday concluded a two-day official visit to Argentina.
The Emir sent a cable to President Mauricio Macri, expressing thanks and appreciation for the hospitality and warm reception and said the visit was an opportunity to exchange views on regional and international issues of common interest. Both sides stressed the importance of stability in the Middle East and expressed concern over humanitarian consequences of the ongoing conflicts in the region.
On Israeli-Palestinian conflict, both sides stressed the importance of reaching comprehensive and fair solution, taking into account the related United Nations resolutions and the Arab Peace Initiative.
The Emir said the visit would contribute to strengthening and developing friendship and cooperation in various fields for the benefit of the two peoples. Earlier, the Emir attended a dinner banquet hosted by President Macri at the Quinta de Olivos Presidential Palace in honour of the Emir and his delegation.
President Macri thanked the Emir for visiting Argentina, calling for Qatar to be a strategic partner, especially as both countries are economically integrated and can achieve a lot through cooperation, particularly as Argentina has started a new phase of reforms.
The Emir said relations between both countries would develop to a strategic partnership, describing talks between both sides as positive and distinguished and wished they would be held regularly to enhance cooperation, partnership and investment. President Macri’s wife Juliana Awada and several Argentine ministers also attended the banquet.
The Emir arrived in Argentina from a visit to Colombia where he held talks with President Juan Manuel Santos. They expressed satisfaction with the good level of relations in political, economic and investment fields. During both visits, several memorandums of understanding were signed.
