DOHA: Fifty-five percent of cases of bounced cheques last year have been settled, Brig. Nasser Jaber Al Noaimi, Director, Capital Security Department, has said.
He said the department gives priority to such cases. The department, in collaboration with Public Relations at the Ministry of Interior, has started chalking out a plan to curb the phenomenon and make people aware about its danger, Al Sharq reports. Yusuf Al Zaman, a prominent lawyer, earlier told this daily: “The government has set up tribunals to deal with cases involving dud cheques.” He said the tribunals can hear over 200 cases a session which will help reduce the settlement time.
