DOHA: Qatar Charity (QC) will launch an international relief campaign to provide food, medicine and shelter to about 10 million Syrian refugees and displaced Syrians.
The campaign will be launched on the 21st of Ramadan as part of the ‘Syria… Pain and Hope’ campaign under the slogan ‘Wipe their Tears with Your Zakat and Sadaqah’ and will run for the last 10 days of the holy month.
The campaign is the first to facilitate international donations, offering people outside Qatar the chance to donate.
It includes a live broadcast on the 27th of Ramadan from 10pm to noon on Al Jazeera Mubashir, in cooperation with Al Jazeera News.
The programme will be aired simultaneously on many channels outside Qatar, including Al Risalah, Chamona, For Shabab, Na’lat, Qassim, Syria Al Ghadd, Syria Al Sha’b, Kaifa and Wesal.
“The international campaign seeks to make the most of the last 10 days of Ramadan, the month of giving, where rewards are doubled, opening the door to those who seek to do good, alleviating suffering of 10 million displaced and refugee Syrians,” said QC Chief Executive Officer Yousef bin Ahmed Al Kuwari. He said that the Syrian people are in urgent need of food, shelter, medicine, education and healthcare.
Al Kuwari urged donors to take part in the campaign and stand by their Syrian brothers in their plight in the spirit of solidarity and compassion, which is particularly relevant during Ramadan, when the Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him) was most generous.
The campaign will be used to fund new relief projects in Syria and implement projects to meet the needs of Syrians in and outside the country, including food, shelter, education, treatment of the sick and wounded, Eid clothing, help for students, the purchase of ambulances and paramedic training.
QC has spent over QR88m for the benefit of around 585,000 Syrian people since the conflict broke out.
Around 268,000 people have benefited from food aid, more than 133,000 from shelter and household items, around 155,000 from medical treatment and other health assistance and 28,500 from educational projects.
Around 60 percent of QC projects have benefitted people displaced in Syria, representing around QR48.4m, while the rest was directed to Syrian refugees in the neighbouring Jordan, Lebanon, Turkey and Iraq.
