4 tourists go missing as car plunges into river in E. Afghanistan

KABUL: Four tourists went missing and their driver was injured after their car plunged into a river in Nuristan province, east of Afghanistan, on Friday night, said a statement of the provincial police office on Saturday.

The incident took place late Friday in a mountainous area, and the driver has been recovered from the river, the statement added.

The statement noted that the driver sustained injuries in the mishap and has been shifted to a nearby hospital.

Efforts are underway to recover the bodies of the missing tourists.

Thousands of tourists, including foreign nationals, have visited the mountainous Nuristan province during the three-day Eid al-Adha holidays, which ended on Friday night, according to local officials.
