Doha: As part of ongoing inspection campaigns, inspectors from the Ministry of Economy and Commerce have registered nine violations of the law of consumer protection.
The inspectors conducted surprise raids on several shops selling vegetables, fruits and fish in different parts of the country. The campaign has led to the registration of nine violations, including non-display of price lists in visible places and lack of compliance with the prices.
The inspection campaign aims at monitoring the local market and commercial activities to protect the rights of consumers and monitor suppliers’ compliance with Law No. 8 of 2008 on consumer protection. The law stipulates punishments, including administrative closure and fines ranging between QR3,000 and QR1m.
The Ministry urged consumers to report any abuse or irregularities. The Ministry receives complaints and suggestions through its communication channels.
Meanwhile, the Ministry will discuss the topic of ‘trademark’ during today’s episode of the weekly program Feed wa Istafeed produced by Al Rayyan Channel in cooperation with the Ministry.
The episode will discuss the difference between the trademark and brand name, and the importance of registering the product by choosing the appropriate trademark and the mechanisms of its registration. The programme aims at raising awareness about services and will also highlight the Ministry’s role in protecting trademarks.
