$5m Qatar Development Fund aid for Syrian refugees

Foreign Minister and Qatar Development Fund Chairman H E Sheikh Mohamed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani witnessing the signing of the agreement in Doha, yesterday.

 

Doha: Qatar Development Fund (QDF) yesterday signed $5m agreement with Turkey’s Humanitarian Pooled Fund (HPF) to assist Syrian refugees. Foreign Minister and QDF Chairman H E Sheikh Mohamed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani was present during the signing ceremony.

 

 The agreement was signed by QDF General-Director Khalifa bin Jassim Al Kuwari and the United Nations’ Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator Stephen O’Brien.
Al Kuwari said that the signing of the agreement to support HPF stressed Qatar’s and QDF’s keenness to support Syrian people through humanitarian and development assistance programmes.
He stressed the long term Qatari  support for Syrian refugees in times of crisis while QDF continues to back thousands of them through financing humanitarian operations and providing assistance to those affected by the ongoing crisis in Syria.
For his part, O’Brien called on the international community to follow the steps made by Qatar and provide assistance for humanitarian operations in Syria, pointing out that such contributions could save the lives of Syrians, particularly women and children.
   O’Brien extended sincere thanks to Qatar and QDF for their generous contributions and efforts in alleviating the suffering of those affected in all parts of the world.
