The 2012-13 Qatar Academy sporting year was celebrated recently with the Sports Awards Ceremony held in the school auditorium. Most Valuable Player and Most Improved Player awards were given to 28 teams from U12 to varsity age groups in badminton, basketball, football and volleyball. Eleven certificates were awarded in each category in track and field, which included cross-country and road racing, and six awards were given in swimming. A total of 92 athletes were recognised during the ceremony.

The Athlete of the Year trophies went to Aisha Al Dafaa and Prathamesh Aher, two of QA’s most consistent leaders and incredible athletes. Several Service to Sports certificates were awarded, with a special thanks extended to coaches leaving Qatar Academy — Jemma Lawrence, Peter Reynolds, Michael McKnight, Kath Swords, Chad Schwaberow, Innes Isom and Lisa Isom. Lawrence was recognised for developing the swimming team over the past three years into a “dominant force in the Middle East,” according to swim team member Afrah Shibou.  The Peninsula
