A painting contest and seminar on sustainable consumption, organised by IAID and FEC, evoked a huge response from children, parents and teachers, who turned up in large numbers for the event.
The contest and seminar were organised by IAID in association with the Friends of the Environment Centre (FEC) under the patronage of Dr Saif Ali Al Hajari, Chairman of FEC, as part of World Environment Day (WED) celebrations in Qatar.
“The painting contest and seminar on sustainable consumption are among the many initiatives we have undertaken to propagate the noble message of environmental awareness amongst the young populace for a safe and prosperous future. The event was a huge success, and it was awarding to see the community get involved in such large numbers for common shared values to ensure a greener, safer and more prosperous future for Qatar and the world,” said Dr Al Hajari.
The painting competition drew over 3,000 entries, which surpassed the 2,300 entries received last year, while the seminar on sustainable consumption was equally successful and witnessed attendance by over 500 parents.
“We are very happy with the increased participation in the WED painting contest by children and youth, and to reach out to more than 3,000 young people comes as a true testament of the growing importance of the World Environment Day celebration in Qatar year over year.” said Rajesh Jadhav, Production Head, WED 2013.
A panel of judges from Virginia Commonwealth University in Qatar evaluated all entries in the painting contest, held at the IAID premises.
