Georgetown alumna Al Johara Hassan Ahmed Al Thani (SFS-Q’12) received the Outstanding University Graduates Gold Award at the recent Education Excellence Day ceremony.  Al Thani was a Culture and Politics major who graduated summa cum laude.

“I am honoured to have been considered for this award, and it is thanks to the support of my parents, professors and the Georgetown experience as a whole that has enabled me to reach this point,” Al Thani said.

“I have been very fortunate to have so many educational opportunities made available for me,” she added, “and I hope to become a productive member of society, a woman for others.”

While a student at Georgetown, Al Thani was a member of the Middle East Studies Student Association, a student representative on the Honor Council, a student assistant with the Center for International and Regional Studies, and a research assistant for a joint project with the Doha International Institute for Family Studies and Development and ictQatar.

The Education Excellence Day awards are the highest honour granted by the state to distinguished academic achievers in the Qatari community.  The applications are reviewed by a high-level jury composed of educational experts and university faculty members.

At the ceremony held at Qatar National Convention Centre, Qatari dignitaries praised award recipients for their academic accomplishments and the promise they hold for the future of the country.
