DOHA: In yet another consumer-friendly move, the Ministry of Economy and Commerce forced a car dealer to provide a new vehicle to a customer in place of a defective one.
The service centre of the dealer failed to repair recurring faults in the car following which the Ministry intervened, and compelled it to replace the car.
The Ministry said in a statement yesterday that it received complaints from several vehicle owners regarding manufacturing defects.
Following this, the Ministry deputed its inspectors to verify if the complaints were genuine by making investigations.
And later, a car dealer was notified about the need to replace a defective car with a new one in accordance with Article 10 of the Consumer Protection law (no 8 of 2008). The law, the Ministry said, stipulates that consumers are entitled to choose whether to get repaired, return or exchange defective products. The move comes as part of the Ministry’s efforts to protect consumers and ensure car dealers follow up on vehicle defects and repairs.
The Ministry reiterated that it will continue with its crackdowns in the market to check violations of the provisions of the above law and intensify its inspection drives to combat fraud.
The Ministry said it will refer violators to competent authorities for action to protect consumers’ rights. The Peninsula
