Doha, Qatar: The Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (Kahramaa) has announced updated mechanism and procedures for the installation and operation of electric vehicle (EV) charging stations, emphasising the need for prior approval and adherence to official procedures through the Kahramaa Service Package System (KMSP) as it is strictly prohibited to begin any installation without consulting Kahramaa.
The new procedures apply to all categories, including government entities, the private sector, and residential buildings. Applications must be submitted through a certified electrical contractor, along with the required documents such as no-objection letters from relevant authorities, site plans, and a commitment to connect the charger to Kahramaa’s smart platform.
In residential buildings, Kahramaa permits the installation of alternating current (AC) chargers only, with a maximum capacity of 22 kilowatts. The property owner is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the charger.
Kahramaa stresses the importance of connecting all charging devices to the smart platform after installation. The owner is responsible for safety, operation, and maintenance, and must comply with all laws and regulations governing electricity connection and follow safety and security protocols.
Director of the Conservation and Energy Efficiency Department at Kahramaa Eng Rashid Al-Rahimi, stated that these updates are part of efforts to support the transition to sustainable electric transportation and Kahramaa’s commitment to ensuring the highest standards of safety and quality. He urged everyone to comply with the procedures in the interest of the community and Sustainability.
