Qatar key growth area for Mashreq: CEO

DOHA: Qatar is a key growth area for Mashreq and remains central to the bank’s expansion plans, said the bank’s Chief Executive Officer Abdul Aziz Al Ghurair (pictured).

Al Ghurair, who was in Doha last week, met with  H E Ali Sherif Al Emadi, Minister of Finance and H E Sheikh Abdullah bin Saud Al Thani, the Governor of the Qatar Central Bank.

Al Ghurair said, “Qatar has been a key growth area for Mashreq and remains central to our expansion plans. We recognise the huge steps Qatar is making in building its infrastructure and diversifying its economy in line with Qatar National Vision 2030 and view this as an exciting opportunity for Mashreq, a Bank which has had a presence in the country for over 40 years. Qatar is a primary market for us and we will continue to support the economic development of the country.”

Mashreq’s success with small and medium enterprises (SME) banking, its increase in corporate and consumer lending and growth in wealth management services were highlighted during a meeting with the bank’s top executives in Qatar. Ross Officer, Country Head, Mashreq Qatar and Niranjan Mendonca, Head of Retail Banking attended the meeting. 

Al Ghurair continued:, “Mashreq places a great deal of emphasis on engaging with leaders and decision makers in the countries where we are present. We also have a keen focus on employee engagement, since it is due to their valuable insight and hard work that Mashreq has been able to enjoy such great success.”
