DOHA: Jassim and Hamad Bin Jassim Charitable Foundation (HBJ Foundation) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Marrakesh State of Morocco to launch charitable projects in the field of health and housing.
The MoU was signed by HBJ Foundation’s CEO Sa’eed Mathkar Al Hajri and for Marrakesh Chief Ahmed Akhshaisin, in the presence of officials from both sides.
Al Hajri said: “The MoU reiterates brotherhood bonds between the Qatari and Moroccan people and will strengthen cooperation in implementation of the projects.”
He said HBJ Foundation will build a 45-bed hospital and equip it as per technical specifications required by the Moroccan Ministry of Health at Sidi Yousif Bin Ali in Marrakesh at a cost of QR17m. The foundation stone will be laid on November 6.
Both sides also agreed to build vocational training centres to empower youth, support existing centres, build schools for different educational levels and a housing project comprising 200 homes.
He said the foundation will focus on improving maternal and child health and set up health centres in small villages and link them to the hospital.
A kidney dialysis centre will also be built with necessary equipment.
Akhshaisin said the hospital is part of a plan to meet health needs in the area and is the cornerstone for collaboration with HBJ Foundation in response to official requests. A steering committee was formed to follow up all steps until the completion of the project, he added.
As per the five-year MoU,  Marrakesh will provide land for the projects based on areas and specifications defined in architectural designs of each project. It will also issue administrative and technical licenses and approvals for implementing and operating health and housing projects.
The hospital will be named after Sheikh Jassim bin Jabor Al Thani and the foundation will bear the cost of its equipment.
