QFA elections on October 9

DOHA: The name of Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Thani (pictured), has been nominated to run for yet another term as President of Qatar Football Association (QFA), it was informed here.

Sheikh Hamad’s name is the lone entry which was announced by the QFA’s Electoral Committee for the top post.

The QFA’s Electoral Committee yesterday announced the nominations for the posts of the President and Executive Committee Membership after a meeting with the Legal Directorate of QFA .

The meeting of the Electoral Committee, held on Tuesday at  QFA’s headquarters at Al Bidda Tower, was attended by the committee Chairman Abdulla Hamed Al Mulla, Vice Chairman Dr Ahmed Al Emadi, and Committee Member Ali Salem Afifa. 

Two other members Dr Mahmoud Al Mahmoud and Eid Al Muraikhi could not attend the committee meeting as they are out of the country. 

“All nomination files and papers were thoroughly examined. There were some comments on some nomination files which is why we needed to consult the Legal Directorate of QFA to ensure that the election process is run in a fair manner. All election regulations are implemented on all 7 nominees (Presidency and Executive Committee Membership nominees),” said Al Mulla, Committee Chairman.

Names of candidates in the fray for the post of Executive Committee Membership are as follows: Ibrahim Khalil Al Mohannadi from Lekhwiya Club, Ahmed Abdul Aziz Al Buainain from Qatar Sports Club, Hassan Abdullah Al Thawadi from Umm Slal Club, Saoud Abdul Aziz Al Mohannadi from Qatar Sports Club, Fahad Mohammed Al Kuwari from Al Sadd Sports Club, and  Hani Talib Balan from Qatar Stars League

The elections will take place in the Ordinary General Assembly Meeting on October 9.
