DOHA: With the ban on conventional air conditioners set to be enforced from July 1, the Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation ( Kahramaa ) has tied up with Carrefour to display the new energy-saving ACs for creating public awareness.
A wide range of air conditioners with highly efficient energy performance systems will be on display at the electrical appliances area of the hypermarket chain.
Import, sale, storing and display of all conventional air conditioners that do not meet the Qatari and Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) specifications will be banned from July 1.
Only energy-saving ACs will be allowed in the market from that date. The energy efficiency of the ACs can be identified through the number of stars on them. A minimum three stars (equal to Energy Efficiency Ratio-EER: 8.5) are required for window air conditioners and four stars (EER 9.5) for split air conditioners.
The more stars a product has, the more efficient it is in terms of efficiency and conservation. The system helps Qatar in protecting the environment by reducing harmful emissions.
“Energy efficiency stars labeling for air conditioners will be done to help customers determine the ideal air conditioners in terms of energy efficiency and reduction of carbon emissions,” Kahramaa said yesterday.
