Doha: Under the patronage of H E Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani, President, Qatar Olympic Committee, Anti-Doping Lab Qatar (ADLQ) is organising its sixth annual symposium in Doha Marriott Hotel from May 31 to June 1.
The symposium will be held after the 13th World Anti Doping Agency (WADA) Asia/Oceania Intergovernmental Ministerial Meeting on Anti-Doping in Sport, to be attended by WADA’s senior management. A meeting on May 30 will be attended by WADA officials and ministers of sport and youth from 34 countries in the region. It will discuss the countries’ efforts and strategies in the fight against doping in sport and challenges they face.
Experts in the field of anti-doping and veterinary medicine will attend the annual symposium to be held under the theme ‘Anti-Doping in Humans and Animals: Parallels and Divergences. The symposium will discuss topics related to the theme, especially in view of great competition in camel and horse racing which are gaining interest and popularity from the public from across the world.
Davis Howman, Director-General, WADA, scientists and doctors from and outside Qatar, among others, will attend.
Scientists from laboratories, international and regional organisations and local entities will give presentations on the latest in the field of anti-doping.
The focus will be on doping in animals and how far it has reached; and challenges and solutions as compared to doping in humans. ADLQ is one of the few laboratories that will analyse animal samples for doping.
