Founded in 1997 as a charitable organisation operating under the supervision of the Regulatory Authority for Charitable Activities, the Qatar Cancer Society is a key national pillar in Qatar’s cancer control system.
The Society is guided by a clear vision of “a cancer-aware community and a better life for those affected,” and a humanitarian mission that relies on donations and community partnerships to provide awareness services, as well as financial, psychological, and social support for patients, survivors, and their families, in addition to contributing to professional development and scientific research in the field of cancer.
In 2025, the Society continued its humanitarian role in supporting patients unable to afford treatment through its digital platform “Wayyakom,” covering the treatment of approximately 1,750 adult and paediatric patients at an estimated cost of QR49m. Additionally, 1,200 individuals directly benefited from psychological and social support programmes, while indirect beneficiaries exceeded 40,000, alongside specialised individual psychological support services provided to 50 survivors.
In the field of community awareness—considered the first line of defence against cancer—the Society continued to implement specialised campaigns and programs through its Cancer Awareness Centre, the first of its kind in the Middle East. In 2025, more than 6,659,500 indirect beneficiaries were reached, in addition to 18,950 direct beneficiaries through workshops, programs, and field awareness activities.
The Society also sustained its efforts in professional development and scientific research, with a total of 16,248 beneficiaries from these programmes, underscoring its role in supporting national competencies and strengthening research and development in cancer.
At the partnership and institutional levels, the Society recorded several notable accomplishments in 2025, including membership in Qatar’s National Cancer Control Framework, the Gulf Federation for Cancer Control, and the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC).
It also won the Qatar CSR Award 2025 and secured the rights to host the global Relay for Life event. Furthermore, the Society established 17 strategic partnerships with governmental and private entities and implemented more than 80 awareness initiatives in collaboration with schools, universities, and various institutions.
At the conclusion of the General Assembly meeting, the Society reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening governance, transparency, and sustainability principles, while continuing to develop its services, programmes, and initiatives to enhance the quality of life of patients, survivors, and their families, and to reinforce its role as a leading national organisation in cancer control in Qatar.
