Kansas City Royals’ players celebrate on the field after defeating the Chicago White Sox to clinch an American League wild card play-off berth at US Cellular Field, yesterday.

NEW YORK: The Kansas City Royals will be in the postseason for the first time since 1985 after beating the Chicago White Sox 3-1 yesterday.
Kansas City clinched one of the American League’s two wild-card spots and stayed alive in the race for the Central Division, thanks to a Detroit loss that leaves the Royals one game behind the Tigers with two to play. The Royals scored three times in the first inning against the White Sox and that was all the offense they needed in a victory that ended their 29-year play-off drought.
Twins 11, Tigers 4
Brian Dozier and Oswaldo Arcia each had three RBIs to help the Minnesota Twins beat Detroit and stall the Tigers’ drive to a fourth straight AL Central Division title.
Rookie right-hander AJ Achter (1-0) earned his first major league victory in his seventh appearance. He allowed two hits, one being first baseman Miguel Cabrera’s 25th home run, which came in the seventh.
A’s 6, Rangers 2
Josh Reddick had a home run and three RBIs and the Oakland Athletics moved to the verge of a postseason spot with win over the Texas Rangers.REUTERS
