Doha: A recall has been issued for IKEA Patrull safety gates for children over defective safety lock.
The Ministry of Economy and Commerce, in collaboration with Hamad and Mohamed Al- Futtaim, announced the recall of the safety gates as the safety lock could open unexpectedly and pose a fall risk for children.
IKEA urged customers who have a Patrull safety gate for children to immediately remove it and return it to the IKEA store for a full refund.
IKEA received customer reports where Patrull safety gates have opened unexpectedly and children have fallen down stairs. Some of the incidents have required medical attention. A third party investigation has shown that the locking mechanism is not reliable, posing a risk for small children, despite approved tests to applicable standards.
“At IKEA, we have a zero tolerance regarding child safety. We want to offer safe and healthy products and we think that children are the most important people in the world. Whenever we get indications of a possible safety issue with any of our products, we act. We cannot accept that there is a risk of injury while playing and as an immediate and precautionary action we recall all Patrull safety gates” says Maria Thörn, Acting Business Area Manager at Children´s IKEA.
The ministry said the recall campaign comes within the framework of its ongoing efforts to protect consumers and ensure that suppliers follow up on product defects and recall defective items.
The ministry said that it will coordinate with the supplier to ensure the recall of defective products and will communicate with customers to ensure that the necessary procedures have been taken.
The ministry urged all customers to report any violations to its Consumer Protection and Anti-Commercial Fraud Department through call center: 16001 or email at [email protected]
