Miami--Rafael Nadal, showing no signs of the ankle injury that gave him a scare this week, opened his Miami Masters campaign on Friday with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Nicolas Almagro.
The second-seeded Spaniard has never won the title on the hardcourts of Miami, where he is playing for the 11th time.
But he got his latest bid off to a solid start, getting through the opening set in 52 minutes before picking up the pace against his compatriot and polishing off the win in one hour and 29 minutes.
The win was the 35th at the tournament for the four-time runner-up, who lost the 2014 final to Novak Djokovic.
