Qatar University staff members took part in a fire safety awareness and evacuation training session earlier yesterday.

Organised by the university’s Business Operations Department in coordination with IGTC-Chubb Fire, the session aimed to make staff aware of the different types of fires and how to deal with them in an emergency situation using extinguishers. They were also trained in emergency procedures and provided with a new booklet Your Guide To Emergency Procedures, which simply and clearly explains how to handle different types of emergency situations.

During the one-day session, participants learned about the chemistry of fire, classification of fires, general fire safety, emergency and evacuation procedures and safe use of fire extinguishers.

The HR staff who attended were awarded certificates.

It is planned to conduct the fire safety programme for all staff, faculty and students at the university and to provide staff working in laboratories with tailored training sessions, highlighting additional dangers of working in a lab environment.

QU’s Director of  Business Operations Engineer Abdulla Yacoub Al Sayed said: “These sessions are crucial in helping raise awareness of fire safety and emergency procedures across the university.

“We take this sort of training very seriously – it really can help save lives – and will ensure that all the QU community have the chance to take part.”
