Doha: Nearly 50 secondary teachers in Qatar graduated from a 10-part robotics training course organised and hosted by College of the North Atlantic-Qatar (CNA-Q). It was the second group of teachers trained this year.
The training takes place in partnership with the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, who have been instrumental in ensuring teachers take part in robotics training, to encourage students’ interest in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) in the nation’s classrooms. The free training sessions are offered in both English and Arabic during the evenings.
Since CNA-Q started hosting the robotics teacher-training program, hundreds of teachers in the country have been trained to bring applied STEM education into their classrooms.
Teachers are offered up to 30 hours of instruction in robotics programming at CNA-Q.
These teachers then bring their training back into the classroom to teach students how to build and program robots. The training was developed so that students can advance their STEM skills, while developing other 21st century skills such as teamwork and innovation.
“Robotics is part of a worldwide movement to encourage hands-on skills training and immersion in technology for youth,” said Samah Gamar, Vice-President — Academic at CNA-Q.
“We strongly believe in the importance of an early introduction to programming and robotics as a pathway to greater awareness of the many opportunities provided by a career in STEM.
