Maintenance work is in progress at the affected schools and the classes are expected to resume on Sunday, the Supreme Education Council (SEC) said yesterday.
“Eight schools that were affected by the rain on Wednesday are being restored in collaboration with the authorities concerned to receive the students on Sunday”, the Minister of Education, Higher Education and Supreme Education Council (SEC) Secretary- General H E Mohammed Abdul Wahed Ali Al Hammadi tweeted yesterday.
“181 independent schools successfully organized classes on Thursday as they were not affected by the rain,” he added.
He hailed the Minister of Municipality and Urban Planning and the Minister of Transport for the hard work of their respective ministries to avoid further suspension of classes.
The SEC had announced on Wednesday that few schools affected by the rain will be closed on Thursday and the remaining will hold classes as usual.
The Services Department of SEC is expected to prepare a report about the damages and losses of the affected schools buildings after completion of the maintenance work.
