DOHA: Seventy-nine artworks by 17 of the most prominent artists in Poland and Europe are featured at an exhibition which opened on Tuesday at Katara Building 13.
The expo, supported by Katara, was a result of cooperation between Qatar Fine Arts Society and Polish Artists Association. It was opened by Katara General Manager Dr Khalid Ibrahim Al Sulaiti, Polish Ambassador Krzysztof Suprowicz and Qatar Fine Arts Society Chairman Yusuf Al Sada.
Dr Al Sulaiti stressed that organising the exhibition comes as an important part of Katara’s strategy to develop and deepen artistic taste and identity.
He said Katara will continue to work to enrich the cultural and artistic scene by supporting local artists and attracting artists from other countries to present their experiences, which helps local artists through exchange of experiences and skills.
The exhibition follows the success of two previous expos organised in this context namely the ceramics expo by Sudanese artist Dr Laila Mukhtar and just recently Iraqi-Canadian artist Al Al Mimar’s “Neigh in the Time of Silence” expo on Arabian horses.
Polish Ambassador Suprowicz said the exhibition captures the strong cultural relation between his country and Qatar through the cooperation between the two fine arts association from both countries.
Al Sada lauded Poland as one of the leading European countries in fine arts with a long history in the arts and with the Polish Artists Association celebrating 100 years since its inception. He said next year a number of Qatari artists will feature in an expo in Poland to share their experiences in the field.
Jacek Maslankiewicz, President of the Polish Artists Association, expressed his happiness with this exhibition, which he said enabled him to meet and exchange experiences with a number of Qatari artists.
This, he said, was the first time he had been to an Arab country and was particularly impressed with the stunning evolution of Qatar’s art scene.
