Italy woos tourists from Qatar; plans to organise Italian Week

Italian Embassy is aiming to increase the number of tourists from Qatar. The Embassy plans to organise ‘Italian Week’ in November to give locals a taste of Italian cuisines. The country, well known globally for art, culture, design, fashion and cuisines, attracted around 30,000 visitors from Qatar last year.
“Around 30,000 visitors visited Italy from Qatar in 2016. It is a good number but there is a room for increasing this figure. We have to widen this offer of art, culture, fashion, design, culinary experiences for tourist because this is what Italy can really offer. In the following months, I would like to increase this offer,” Pasquale Salzano, Ambassador of Italy to Qatar told The Peninsula, speaking on the sidelines of a travel workshop organised yesterday at The St. Regis Hotel.
“In the coming months we would like to organise ‘Italian Week’. It will be a week which will be dedicated to Italian restaurants and cuisines and world renowned chef will come here,” he added.
The Embassy will also organise a health awareness week that will make people aware about healthy lifestyle.
The Italian Chamber of Commerce in cooperation with Italian Embassy and Qatar Airways organised travel workshop to promote tourists from Qatar to Florence city. Florence is the third most sought after tourist destination in Italy.
“I am here to promote Florence city and Italy. Florence is one of the best destinations in Italy. Last year 12 million tourist visited Florence making it the third most destinations after Rome and Venice. Florence means art culture, design, culinary experiences. Florence truly combines the top drivers of Italian tourism,” he said. “People from Qatar love Italy and Italian people like to know more about Qatar, and my aim is to improve the knowledge about Qatar in Italy,” he added.
Leonardo Visani, Conferences Department Manager, Firenze Convention and Vistiors Bureau said Florence is easily reached by plane, train or car. The city has its own international airport (Amerigo Vespucci) and Pisa International Airport is just 50 km away. Florence is a major high-speed railway hub with trains leaving regularly for the whole of Italy. Florence is located on the main Italian motorway, the A1, which connects Milan and Naples.
