Qatar Petrochemical Company (Qapco) recently held a ceremony at its Doha headquarters to welcome new scholarship students to the company. As part of the scholarships, Qapco will provide all necessary resources to these promising young men and women during their undergraduate education, including tuition fees, accommodation, health insurance, textbooks and supplies, and international travel, if required.

The Qatarisation section of the company will also provide continuous support through regular follow- up and communication from a team of experienced career counsellors.

Dr Mohamed Yousef Al Mulla, Qapco’s Vice Chairman & CEO, said: “We already have over 100 scholarship students in universities in Qatar or abroad and will always demonstrate a strong commitment to corporate social responsibility, especially in the field of education. We have invested significant time and effort in developing the next generation of engineers and managers to ensure a regular flow of talented and highly qualified new recruits that will be able to support Qapco in achieving its future business goals and ambitions. This is especially important nowadays, with the inauguration last November of our LDPE 3 plant and our joint venture with QP to build a world-scale stream cracker petrochemical complex in Ras Laffan by 2018.”

Abdulla Ahmad Naji, Qapco’s Learning & Development Manager, described the ceremony as “a great way to welcome our new students to the Qapco family.”

“I believe that the Qapco Scholarship Programme is one of the best in the region as it provides everything that students require, including a long-term career path. I am convinced that some of these students, maybe all of them, will become managers in the future.”

“I can speak from personal experience about the benefits of Qapco’s approach to developing their staff.  Since I joined the company in 2002, I have been encouraged to study both bachelor’s and master’s in the UK. After working hard and achieving all my company performance targets, I have recently been promoted to my current managerial position. This was achieved with the support of Dr Al Mulla, our VC & CEO, the Learning & Development Department and all training specialists and professionals currently working in the company. I believe that if you study hard and perform to the best of your ability, there is really no limit to what you can achieve at Qapco.”

In May, Qapco was awarded the Annual Qatarisation Crystal Award for Supporting Student Scholarships during 13th Anniversary Annual Qatarisation Review.
